The individual university medical centres (teaching hospitals) are responsible for improving and expanding their own local infrastructure and for the internal co-ordination of activities associated with the “pearls”. Last year, each UMC appointed a project leader who – acting on behalf of its executive board – oversees work related to String of Pearls and serves as a contact person for the initiative.
