The Organisation

Administration and funding

Overall responsibility for the Parelsnoer Institute rests with the Executive Board of the Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres (www.nfu.nl), made up of the chairpersons of the eight teaching hospitals in the Netherlands. They determine the initiative’s plans, budget and principles, whilst each member is responsible for the activities at and communications with his or her own institution. Day-to-day administration of the project has been entrusted to a two-member management team, which is responsible for meeting the objectives set.
The initiative was originally launched thanks to a government grant from the Economic Structure Enhancement Fund (FES). Politically, it is accountable to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, which also involves the ministries of Economic Affairs and of Health, Welfare and Sport in assessing the project.
